Hello all. I know that the weekly segments have been missing for several weeks now and that’s mostly due to me picking up some more subbing work as well as just getting busy with my main job as well. But in the spirit of Halloween, I’ve decided to bring it back for a Memory Monday that commemorates the “scariest” moments in anime instead of a specific anime. I honestly could probably fill this entire list with Higurashi, but I’ll try not to.
Oh. I also recommend this AMV to watch, ‘cuz it’s pretty awesome and sets the mood fairly well. Happy Halloween everyone ^^
1. Umbrella Death Scene
2. Jigoku Shoujo Trailer
Anime: Jigoku Shoujo
So unfortunately, I couldn’t find any clip that was really “frightening,” so I had to use a fan made trailer for it instead. Jigoku Shoujo is a great anime that I would recommend to anyone who likes horror.
3. Mayu’s Death
Anime: Corpse Party
4. Rika’s death
Anime: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
5. Hospital Scene
Anime: Shinsekai Yori
6. Kanae’s Death
Anime: Elfen Lied
I think Elfen Lied is more gore than horror, but whatever.
7. Maria kills Rosa
Anime: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Silly child, arms don’t bend that way… oh wait, I guess they do.
8. Megumi kills Tohru
I apologize for the no ENG subs.
9. Nina’s Death
Cow goes moo. Pig goes Oink. Dog goes Ed…ward…
10. Keiichi’s Death
Anime: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
God damn, I wish I could find the full version of this scene. This is perhaps my favorite scene not only from Higurashi, but from “horror” anime in general. Just when you think everything is over– the killer has fled and is genuinely sincere when she says she’ll never do anything like this again, the victim is rescued and is recovering in a hospital thinking about if she’s ok now, suddenly she comes out of nowhere, dripping with blood– hatred and murder in her eyes. The one promise she made you, that promise that you believed in is broken as she drives the literal final nail into your coffin and then it cuts to the ending song and that’s the end of the entire arc. It was just so perfectly crafted, I can’t help but feel giddy every time I remember it.
